BLG Mining · Safety & Environment
Zero Harm is the operating system.
Not a poster on the wall. Safety and environmental performance are built into how the mine is planned, scheduled and run, and they are audited by people who do not work for us.

Philosophy
Production is never the reason.
Every mining company says safety comes first. The test is what happens when it costs something. At BLG Mining, any employee can stop a job, and no supervisor has the authority to restart it by pulling rank. Production targets are set on the assumption that the safe method is the only method, so there is never a version of the plan that requires cutting a corner.
That position only holds if it is systematised rather than exhorted, which is why our management systems are certified and externally audited instead of self-declared.
It is also why safety sits in the same management line as tonnes and grade. The person who answers for the month’s production answers for the month’s incidents, so there is no version of a good month that hides a bad one.
Systems
Certified, and independently audited.
ISO 45001
Occupational health and safety management certified across every site, with the audit trail to match.
ISO 14001
Environmental management certified to the same standard, covering water, dust, noise and land.
Training
Forty hours of refresher training per employee every year, on top of site-specific inductions for anyone who sets foot on the lease.
PPE & Medicals
Company-issued, site-specific PPE for every employee, and annual fitness-for-duty medicals.
Environment
We rehabilitate as we go.
Rehabilitation deferred to closure is a liability dressed up as a plan. We rehabilitate concurrently: as the face advances, the ground behind it is reshaped, topsoiled and re-vegetated, so the disturbed footprint at any moment is a fraction of the total mined area.
It costs more in the month and less over the life of the mine, and it means the closure position is real rather than a provision on a balance sheet.
Water and dust are managed with the same discipline: settling dams, haul-road damping and monitoring that feeds the ISO 14001 system rather than a drawer.
People & community
Mines outlive the people who open them.
Local Employment
We hire and train locally wherever the skills exist or can be built, because a crew that lives near the lease has the longest view of it.
Skills Transfer
Operator and technical training that leaves people more employable than we found them, whether or not they stay with us.
Two Jurisdictions
Namibian and South African regulatory obligations are met in full and in the open, on their own terms rather than a lowest common denominator.
Closure Planning
Financial provision and a physical rehabilitation plan maintained from day one, not assembled when the resource runs short.
