Black Lion Group · Mining
We operate and optimise mining assets.
BLG Mining is the resources division of Black Lion Group. Our crews run every stage of a mining operation, from the blast hole to the final product, with safety and compliance run in-house to the same standard. In production today: copper in the Kunene Region of Namibia and anthracite in KwaZulu-Natal.
Talk to us about a project ↗Overview
One company, every stage.
BLG Mining is the resources division of Black Lion Group, and it runs on a simple rule: the people who state a number are the people who stand behind it. The geologists who model the resource run the grade control. The surveyors who measure the month carry the payment certificates. The crews on the bench work for us, not for a contractor three layers removed.
That structure is also why the operation moves at private-company speed. Drill and blast, load and haul, geology, survey, mine planning, metallurgy and processing all sit in-house, so a decision taken in the morning is on the bench by the afternoon.
The standards are not our own invention. We are certified to ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety and ISO 14001 for environmental management, and our resource work is JORC and SAMREC compliant, independently audited to the standards the majors work to.
Live operations
Two mines in production.
Both operations are mining, processing and selling product today, and each one finishes what it digs on its own site.
Kamanjab Copper Mine
An open-pit copper operation producing 25,000 tonnes of ROM a month and finishing it without leaving site: crushed, leached in agitated tanks and electrowon to copper cathode inside the mine boundary, at 85% recovery in circuit.

Capabilities
What we run in-house.
Eight disciplines, one management line. This is how our mines run day to day, and it is what we bring to any project, partnership or operation we take on.
Opencast & Underground Mining
End-to-end ownership of opencast and underground operations across active sites in Namibia and South Africa.
Drilling & Blasting
Full in-house drill and blast: ANFO, emulsion and electronic detonation, designed to the fragmentation the plant wants.
Loading & Hauling
A GPS-dispatched fleet run on match-factor optimisation, operated by our own trained crews.
Underground Development
150 m per month per crew, supported by experienced shift crews and modern equipment.
Geology & Resources
JORC and SAMREC compliant resource definition with Competent Person reports, Leapfrog Geo and Datamine modelling, and RC grade control on a 50 m × 50 m pattern.
Surveying & Mine Planning
Thirty years of survey experience, UAV drone mapping, monthly volumetric surveys, and mine design through Surpac, Minesched and Whittle.
Metallurgy & Processing
Copper leach and coal washability handled by in-house metallurgy, from bench-scale testwork to plant reconciliation.
HSE & Compliance
Zero Harm backed by ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 systems, 40 hours of annual refresher training, and concurrent rehabilitation.
Safety & environment
Zero Harm, run as a system.
Any employee can stop a job, no supervisor can restart it by pulling rank, and the ground behind the face is rehabilitated while the mine still works. Certified, externally audited, and planned that way from the first blast.
